What an amazing connection made through the internet. Arthur Young has been an inspiration of mine since child hood. He was exploring the state of Alaska when the men were made of steel and the boats were made of wood. I have watched his old school videos over and over again, his 1926 expedition of Alaska truly inspired me. His primitive osage orange longbow taking down a moose on the freezing banks of the Yukon, then making a raft out of the Moose hide and floating to his next adventure “blew my mind”! I had no idea men had that kind of intestinal fortitude, and I admire him for it. I only wish I could meet this man today, shake his hand, and fling some arrows with him. How is his cousin? Would love to hear more about this connection with Arthur!

The cold definitely stops many people from venturing into the woods…That is for certain. But there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear. I have several recommendations for layering systems depending upon what weather and time of year your plan your adventure for. If you are a hunter I recommend several brands for high quality ultra light gear that will keep you happy in any condition to say the least. Where do you spend most of your time in the woods? Would really like to hear about your adventures Jarrek!

Lida, your words are very kind and I appreciate them very much. I have always been inspired by great men who have gone before me such as Art Young, Fred Bear, and Theodore Roosevelt. These men were visionaries, explorers, and adventurers at heart. If anything I hope to inspire people to get outside and experience our greatest resource of all and that is “the wild”. great read and thx for the pics. I’ve hiked/camped/survived in a few different terrain sets but nothing like that. My hatred of the cold gets in my way..hehe
